“The most simple things can bring the most happiness.” —Izabella Scorupco
When was the last time you saw a toddler? We think toddlers have a lot to learn, and they do. Although, we also have a lot to learn from them. Toddlers are happy over the smallest things. Maybe they saw a dog, smiled at a stranger, or played peek-a-boo with a friend. While some of these seem like silly reasons to be happy, toddlers still gain happiness from the situation. Shouldn’t we just be able to naturally feel happy and laugh without having a need to complicate or justify our happiness and laughter?
As we get older, we tend to mature and learn knowledge and skills that help us navigate the environment we live in. Yet, sometimes we also make our lives more complicated than they need to be. We create drama, lie to others, and make excuses just to try and protect our relationships with others. In reality, these are all reasons why relationships grow complicated and may weaken, or break, overtime.
Obviously, we are not all going to resort to the ways of a toddler and start drinking milk from bottles and crawl to get around. Instead, we can learn valuable lessons from toddlers about how to find joy over simple things in life. Maybe we can look at something with a new perspective, rather than to label an experience and limit the potential creativity it contains. As an adult, we may take a different approach to finding joy in the simple things. Perhaps we will just get excited over an upcoming event, or act a little silly with a friend rather than fear we will be looked at in a different way.
We don’t need a new gadget or a big vacation to make us happy. Happiness is all around us, we just have to take a moment to look around. Go for a walk. Call up a friend you haven’t talked to in a long time. Find one of your favorite movies from childhood and watch it. Listen to music that you enjoy. Make a day trip to the beach, or just spend a few hours there. Eat some good food. Get outside and explore nature. Visit a nearby city you have never been to before. Watch a comical show. Do something simple that you enjoy. Be excited about whatever activity you are going to partake in. Enjoy the activity in its entirety. Savor it. Sprinkle some activities throughout your week and watch your happiness grow. Not only is this good for yourself, but your friends and family may benefit as well. Be happy and enjoy the simple things in life. You deserve it.
