Keeping Productivity Simple

Do not confuse motion and progress. A rocking horse keeps moving but does not make any progress. ― Alfred A. Montapert

It’s tempting to focus on the process rather than the result.

Get the right shoes to run faster.
Learn the new hack to find happiness.
Buy the perfect planner to be more productive.

We often strive for complex solutions, only to get overwhelmed and burned out. So why make things more complicated than they need to be?

Focus on one task at a time.
Break tasks down into manageable pieces.
Set realistic expectations with your tasks and time.
Let go of busy work and focus on what’s most important.
Do the things your future self will thank you for.

Being productive is simple, but humans make it complicated.

As the registered dietitian Becca Shern wrote:

“Personal wellness is 80 percent behavior and 20 percent knowledge.
And here’s the secret: we already have the necessary information. Stop searching.”

The same applies with productivity: Use the knowledge you have to shape the behavior you want.

Simple isn’t easy, but it’s worth it. Stay focused on the right things and you’ll never have to worry about making motion instead of making progress.
