Many people talk about quitting with a taste of disgust. In a world where quitting is synonymous with failure and praise is given for endless persistence, we see messages like:
Keep fighting.
Never give up.
Be the last one standing.
Yet, everything is contextual. When I look back, some of the best decisions I’ve made were when I decided to quit:
Trying to fix people, so I can support them.
Setting unrealistic expectations, so I can focus on small and consistent changes.
Filling my schedule with obligations, so I can pursue less.
Worrying about the tools, planners, and apps, so I can start taking action.
None of these changes happen overnight, but when we take the time to ask the right questions and prioritize how we spend our time, we begin to move in a better trajectory. Remember: All positive changes are important and worth celebrating, no matter how small.
Quit thinking of ideas as dogmatic, good or bad, right or wrong, and start looking at nuance and context. Let go of what’s not working so you can double down on what is.
