We all know about the hunters-gatherers of yesteryear, but now most of us are chasers.
We are chasing the next vacation.
We are chasing the latest trinket.
We are chasing the promotion.
Chasing an outcome makes our contentment dependent on the result. Once the desired outcome is achieved, another desire takes its place and the chase begins again.
But in each of these scenarios, what’re we really looking for?
We want to go on vacation to relax.
We want the new trinket to be happy.
We want the promotion to feel valued.
If we understand our true desire, we can use simplicity to find an alternative path to get us there.
Take a deep breath to relax.
Move your body and notice the happiness that arises.
Help others to create value.
There is nothing wrong with a vacation, trinket, or promotion. But when we let external factors control our happiness, we live a life full of discontent. Be intentional with the situations in your control, and let go of the ones that are not.
Embrace simplicity first, it often contains the answers one seeks.
