Most children are given direction in the form of commands. Whether it’s to clean their room or finish their homework, these were the instructions imparted upon us.
Age invites us to take life into our own hands, yet we still seek guidance from others. We turn to self-help, online forums, and society to tell us what to do.
Buy that new jacket.
Eat these seven superfoods.
Practice yoga everyday.
Some suggestions are delivered with positive intent, yet any accepted suggestion still occupies space in our lives.
Are these suggestions serving you, or do they serve others?
Do they make you like you, or do they make others like you?
Do they make you happy, or do they make your loved ones happy?
Suggestions that add value are wonderful; suggestions that don’t become obligations that own part of our lives.
Understand that many things in life are optional. You don’t have to get that new jacket to look cool, eat superfoods to be healthy, or practice yoga to be at peace.
In fact, we might uncover our peace once we realize we don’t have to do any of those things.
If your life is full of burdens, consider eliminating them from your life to reclaim your time, energy, and attention.
Or disregard this suggestion and carry on as you normally would; you can simply tell yourself, “You don’t have to do that.”
