
My calendar was like a family-sized bag of skittles. It was packed, color coded, and optimized for efficiency. I used the apps, checked the boxes, read the books, and tried every tool I came across.
I felt compelled to be busy and productive. The extra obligations took up a lot of space in my life, pushing my well-being, relationships, and tranquility to the wayside.
Others feel the need to buy extra goods or services. Thanks to online shopping, instant gratification is only a click away. As the clicks begin to compound, our purchases can eat away at our savings and our sanity.
Some are health and fitness fanatics, always looking for the best way to shed weight, gain muscle, and hack their way to a healthier life. If we take our health too far, we can land at an unhealthy obsession of comparison with our favorite fitness models.
Whether it’s productivity, online purchases, or health habits, be aware of the implications any given activity has on one’s life. Anything taken to the extreme can have negative consequences.
What’s too much for me might be too little for you, and vice versa.
What’s too much today might be too little tomorrow.
It took a lot of time and self-reflection to find the appropriate balance in my life, and I still need to adjust accordingly from time to time. These adjustments take effort, but they are also worth the work.
When we examine the extra, we can discover what’s enough.
