How to Genuinely Listen

Andrew Rocha — August 28, 2016

“One of the most sincere forms of respect is actually listening to what another has to say.” — Bryant H. McGill

We are taught to come up with our own ideas, and share them with others. We try our best to articulate our message in a clear way so that others can understand us and what we are trying to say. Andrew Rocha — August 21, 2016

“Procrastination makes easy things hard, and hard things harder.” — Mason Cooley

When was the last time you procrastinated on something? Maybe it was within the last week, or maybe you are procrastinating right now. Andrew Rocha — August 14, 2016

“The only thing that is constant is change.” — Heraclitus

Think of the last time you were going to do something, or something was going to go a certain way, but then it didn’t. Whatever the event or task was, changed. How did that make you feel?

Regardless of if we like it or not, change is necessary for life. After all, how would you feel if you were the exact same as you were ten years ago and nothing had ever changed in your life and everything just remained exactly the same?

Do it Today.

Andrew Rocha — August 7, 2016

“Just do it! Make your dreams come true!” — Shia LaBeouf

We’re told how important it is to set goals and dream about what we want to achieve. We hear wisdom and helpful advice that seems practical enough to help us along our journey. While all this is great, and each piece helps solve the puzzle, they are not enough. Without the crucial piece to hold them all together, they are all hollow agents of change:

Andrew Rocha — July 31, 2016

“I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.” — Carl Jung

Andrew Rocha — July 24, 2016

“Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement; nothing can be done without hope.” — Helen Keller

As the famous expression asks, “Is the glass half empty or half full?” If you see a metaphoric glass as half full, you are considered optimistic while the half empty response considers you pessimistic. First off, what is optimism? Optimism is having a tendency to look at events and situations from your favorable perspective. If you are already optimistic, this post will help enforce your optimistic mindset and help you pursue the ongoing optimistic lifestyle. If you are pessimistic, don’t worry! This post will provide reasons why it is worth making the switch, and how to do so. Stop the Bleeding, Continue the Healing

Andrew Rocha — July 20, 2016

“I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.” — Jimmy Dean

As you may have noticed, I had returned after about two and a half month gap in content. I would like to apologize for the lack of activity and explain

For the month of May, I had been busy trying to fulfill my roles as a student, employee, family member, and boyfriend. With finals exams also around the corner, I had been studying a lot and had not been spending as much time writing for the blog.

On Sunday, June 5th, I had gone to work, came back home, and was heading back to school as if it were any other day. I walked up to the intersection and stood on the sidewalk.  I waited until the traffic lights signaled for my turn to cross, then I was walking on the crosswalk.

Then, I wasn’t.

Defining Success

Andrew Rocha — July 11, 2016

“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?”
“That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,” said the Cat.
“I don’t much care where—” said Alice.
“Then it doesn’t matter which way you go,” said the Cat.
—so long as I get SOMEWHERE,” Alice added as an explanation.
“Oh, you’re sure to do that,” said the Cat, “if you only walk long enough
